The Solutions Party Constitution (DRAFT)
Part One: Party Platform and Rules for Candidates
Article One: Party Platform
The Solutions Party Platform shall be published at www.solutionsparty.org. Anyone may suggest modifications or additions to the Party Platform, and all such proposed changes will be considered. Changes may be proposed at anytime by sending an email to info@solutionsparty.org.
Article Two: Rules for Solutions Party-endorsed Candidates
2.1 One-term Limit: All Party-endorsed candidates (“Candidates”) for public office promise to serve ONLY one term if elected, no exceptions.
2.2 Mandatory Waiting Period: Further, all successfully elected Candidates promise to a) never run for the same office again, b) not run for a different office while serving in the current one, and c) not run for a different public office during a two-year period after the termination of their current elected office.
2.3 Truthfulness and Civility: All Candidates are expected to present their ideas and opinions in a completely honest way, based on provable facts. “Provable” means multiply-sourced and independently-verified. Lying or purposely spreading misinformation will not be tolerated under any circumstances. This includes any reference to political opponents. Candidates must always display civility and strive to serve as examples of excellent behavior.
2.4 Priorities: All Candidates are expected to seek office in order to give 100% priority to advancing the interests of their constituents and the general wellbeing of the society as a whole. Under no circumstances will the interests of “Special Interests” be given priority over the “General Interests” of the applicable area or of the society as a whole. Candidates are expected to recognize the sacred duty of using the power of the people for the people. Elected office must not be viewed as one’s ticket to fulfilling personal ambition.
2.5. Regarding Fund Raising: Candidates for office may raise funds to finance their particular campaigns, but all Candidates promise the following:
a) any funds donated to their campaign will be received with “no strings attached.” Under no circumstances may funds be received under a quid-pro-quo arrangement.
b) complete transparency of how the funds are used will be maintained. This could include publishing on a regular basis a CPA-approved spreadsheet showing clearly identified donations (and all other sources of funds) and expenses.
2.6 Party Platform: Candidates ARE NOT expected to endorse every proposal or idea that constitutes the Party Platform at www.solationsparty.org, or approved local version thereof. The Party encourages and welcomes a diversity of opinions and viewpoints. All Candidates ARE expected to adhere to clauses 2.1 to 2.5.
Article Three: Endorsement of Party
Endorsement shall be open to all who submit their resumes.
Candidates for endorsement shall be given a reasonable amount of time to present themselves and their position at a meeting (virtual or otherwise).
Note: for a given election, multiple candidates can be endorsed, as long as they adhere to clauses 2.1 to 2.5 above, and they promise to adhere to Articles Four, Five, and Six below in the case of a successful campaign. Endorsed candidates will be allowed to put a “Solutions Party Endorsed” logo in their campaign materials.
Part Two: Solutions Party-endorsed Elected Officials
The following articles apply to any Solutions Party-endorsed candidate who wins an election (“Elected Official”).
Article Four: Fundraising and Political Events: All Elected Officials promise to NOT engage in any fund raising activities or political events during their time in office, unless they do so on their own personal time, and only for the benefit of other Party-endorsed candidates or the Solutions Party itself. Elected officials are expected to regularly arrange and attend town halls and other informational sessions provided for the benefit of the Elected Official’s constituents. Regular interactions with news organizations and other appropriate media (podcasts, etc) are expected.
Article Five: Regarding Lobbying: All Elected Officials promise to not meet with lobbyists in private. Any person or organization that wishes to present their point of view and/or advice to an Elected Official must do so via a public petition, to be made available at www.solutionsparty.org or approved local version thereof. Likewise, if the lobbying petition is accepted, the “lobbying” session will be scheduled on www.solutionsparty.org or approved local version thereof. The lobbying entity must upload to the Solutions Party web site (or other as designated) a copy of the presentation they plan to make at latest two weeks before their appointment with the Elected Official. Individuals and organizations not associated with the soliciting lobbying entity will be welcome to provide alternative viewpoints during the lobbying session. A lobbying session should be limited to 120 minutes if possible, to be structured to include time for the original presentation, opposing presentations, debate, and Q&A.
Article Six: Post-term Employment: All Elected Officials promise to not seek or accept any offers of employment from entities that contributed in any way (e.g. donating money, etc.) directly or indirectly to their political campaign.
Part Three: Other
Article Seven: Party Budget
When applicable, a summary of income (acquired through donations, fundraising events, etc) and party expenditures will be published quarterly at www.solutionsparty.org, or at approved local versions thereof, and certified by a qualified CPA. Such summary will be crafted to protect any potential confidential information, though every effort will be made to be as completely transparent as possible.
Article Eight: Amendments
Any amendments to this Constitution will implemented according to rules to be specified at a later time.
Part Four: Disbandment
Article Nine: Solutions Party 16-year Limit
The Solutions Party will be disbanded after exactly 16 years, starting from the date of its first official registration as a political party in a given state. Any individual who has ever served in the capacity of as Party Leader—either at the national or state level—promises to never assume a leadership role with a another political party. Acting as an advisor to new or proposed political parties is permitted.
